Cheap Carpet Cleaning – Be Careful Who You Invite Into Your Home.

How Well Do You Know That Contractor?

Carpet cleaning employee steals prescription medications from home.  https://cbs12.com/news/local/carpet-cleaner-admits-to-stealing-prescription-medicine-from-customers

Annually, tens of thousands of homeowners invite “strangers” into their home based on an advertisement or discount coupon found in their local newspaper.  Some of these strangers may be convicted child molesters, have domestic violence issues, are thieves or have ongoing drug issues that the courts currently, and in the past, have had to deal with.

Just because a contractor appears on television, radio or in a coupon book, or happens to have a presence on social media such as Facebook, doesn’t mean they or their employees are safe to invite into your home.  Yet yearly, many consumers, hundreds of thousands of times do without a second thought.

Imagine a stranger, a convicted child molester, rummaging through your daughter’s bedroom.  Alternatively, a contractor going through your medicine cabinets, closets or dresser drawers.

Many companies choose not to perform background checks on employees due to the expense, or they know employees with issues can be hired at a minimum hourly wage.

Other employers do not purchase Liability insurance or maintain Workers Compensation coverage for their employees.  In a scenario such as these, if an employee is injured on your property (they slip and fall, bang their head on something, etc.) the homeowner is liable for the cost of medical treatment, lost time from work, and of course, “pain and suffering.”  Sure, you can sue the contractor but what are you going to recover?  They can’t even afford insurance.

Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care is a Certified Partner with the prestigious Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) and the International Carpet & Rug Institute (CRI).  In addition, we are A+ rated with the Better Business Bureau and a five-year-in-a-row-winner of the coveted Angie’s List Super Service Award.  Our employees are background check twice annually, and we maintain Workers Compensation and General Liability Insurance with one of the nation’s largest insurers.

Background checks, General Liability, Workers Compensation Insurance and membership in national organizations offer clients peace of mind in knowing that anyone entering their home from Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care has been thoroughly vetted and insured.  We also perform random drug screens and conduct client surveys grading our staff on how well they performed for our valued clients.

Before inviting any contractor into your home, do your homework.  Just because they’re part of a franchise, are family owned, or offer a coupon doesn’t mean a hill of beans.

Ask for proof of insurance, check to see their status with the Better Business Bureau.  Check out their “verified” reviews from Angie’s List or the Better Business Bureau.  (Note:  Reviews posted on Yelp, Google, Yahoo, etc. are NOT verified, and anyone can post a fake review, good or bad).

Carpet Protector – Does It Work In SW Florida?

Is Your Carpeting Protected Against Spills and Soil “oops?”

Recently we interviewed an applicant from a local carpet cleaning company and during the interview we asked him to explain the value of carpet protector and how it works.

Imagine our shock and disgust when he told us that he had no idea if Scotchgard works or not because his current employer never applied Scotchgard, the technicians were told to ”spray the clients carpeting with water and they’ll think it’s Scotchgard.”  We promptly ended the interview and needless to say; he was not hired.

Wondering if this practice was prevalent in the industry, we contacted Scotchgard, and after being transferred several times, we were informed that sadly, they’d heard these same complaints.  Scotchgard works IF applied correctly.

Applied by reputable carpeting cleaning professionals, Scotchgard Protector has been trusted by consumers and carpet manufacturers for more than 50 years.  Safe AND effective, it helps carpet fibers resist soiling and makes spills easier to blot up.  It allows stains release more easily during cleaning and revitalizes carpet mill applied stain protection.

Scotchgard Protects Against Dirt, Stains, and Spills

  • Scotchgard helps protect against both oil and water-based stains
  • Helps carpet fibers resist soiling
  • Helps spills release before they become stains
  • Allows stains to release more efficiently during a professional carpet cleaning
  • Helps carpet and upholstery stay cleaner longer
  • Effective against fruit drinks, soft drinks, and frozen fruit treats
  • Vacuuming is more thorough because soils and pollen can’t easily stick to carpet fibers

The best time to apply Scotchgard is immediately after a professional cleaning.

We apply professional grade Scotchgard and offer a one-year guarantee.  Once applied, if you have an accident and spill one of the hundreds of water or oil based covered items, just use a few squirts of the spotter we supply directly to the spot and dab with a white paper towel.  If the spot does not release, simply call us.  We’ll send a technician to your home and remove the stain with our truck mounted equipment.  If the stain is permanent, we will refund the money you paid for protection for that room.  What could be fairer?

How To Avoid Nightmare Carpet Cleaners, Theft and Lawsuits In SW Florida

Who’s Really Knocking On Your Front Door

Every day tens of thousands of consumers throughout the United States invite strangers into their home based on a coupon or perceived “good deal.”  They don’t give a second thought as to the reputation of the company, if their employees are background checked, etc.

After all, they’re getting a good deal and all carpet cleaning companies are the same, right?

Click on this link to find out what happened in Naples to a homeowner when an employee of a carpet cleaning company was not thoroughly vetted:  https://www.forcleancarpets.com/2016/01/09/fort-myers-carpet-cleaner-charged-with-felony-grand-theft/

Have you ever seen a coupon for “Four Rooms Of Carpet Cleaning” for the cut-rate deal of just $49 or just $6.95 a room?  What about those rental carpet cleaning machines that can be found at your local grocery or big box store?  For only $19.95 plus the cost of chemicals, you too can become a professional carpet cleaner.

Have you ever wondered how a cleaning company could deliver top-notch carpet cleaning results for these unbelievable prices?  The simple answer is, THEY CAN’T.  Moreover, let’s not get started on those cheap, inefficient and water soaking rental machines.

You see, carpet cleaning at “too-good-to-be-true” pricing is just that, TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE!

Many “deals” are based on “bait and switch” or “smoke and mirror” pricing.  A LOW price is advertised and when the technician/salesperson arrives at your home, all of a sudden you need a “deep scrub,” or they’ll need to apply a carpet cleaning solution, or the room sizes advertised are based on a 10X10 room, and anything larger is charged extra, by the square foot of course.  The price always goes up!

Bargain carpet cleaning companies also offer a “dry cleaning method” which is designed for surface cleaning glue down carpeting in a commercial environment, not residential.

Basically, the company squirts some solution on the carpeting and uses a buffer to buff the surface.  The carpeting “appears” clean, but give it a few days; the deep-set dirt and grime that resides at the bottom of the carpet pile will work its way to the surface.  The consumer soon realizes that got what they paid for.

The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification is a governing body managed by the nation’s leading carpet producing mills.  They set the standards for how they want their textiles cleaned, and they do NOT endorse “dry cleaning” as a deep cleaning method. In fact, in most cases, this method of cleaning will VOID your warranty.

Some carpet cleaning companies offer dry cleaning in their coupon ads because its quick, cheap, and in most instances, they cannot afford steam cleaning equipment.  They realize there’s a market for cheap carpet cleaning “deals” and this method is as cheap as you can get.

Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care’s carpet cleaning method exceeds all major carpet mill requirements.  We are a Certified Partner with the prestigious Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) and the International Carpet & Rug Institute (CRI).  In addition, we are A+ rated with the Better Business Bureau and a five-year-in-a-row-winner of the coveted Angie’s List Super Service Award.

To avoid nightmare carpet cleaners, it takes less than five minutes of your time.

Check out the prospective cleaner with the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org) and Angie’s List (www.angieslist.com).  Perform an internet search using the company name in the search results.  Ask neighbors, family or friends for referrals.

The last thing you need to do is invite a stranger into your home based on a too-good-to-be-true price.

Companies offering heavily discounted pricing are cutting corners.  They are buying inferior cleaning products, using cheap cleaning equipment, not doing background checks on their employees, and many do not have Workers Compensation or Liability Insurance.

If one of their employees is hurt on your property, and the company does not carry the proper insurance, the homeowner can be sued for their injury, time lost from work and of course, pain and suffering.

Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care has been servicing SW Florida since 2006, and we are proud to be the “cleaner of choice” to many realtors, interior designers, floor covering retailers and homeowners desirous of quality and reasonably priced carpet, tile or upholstery cleaning.

Who you invite into your home matters.  For your safety and peace of mind, check out any contractor allowed in your home.  Don’t throw safety and quality out the window just because they offer a coupon.

Dryer Vent Cleaning – Help Eliminate The Number One Cause of House Fires

Did you know that Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care offers dryer vent cleaning?

With over 15,000 house fires started annually resulting in an average of 35 deaths, 425 injuries and over $205 million dollars in property damage, clogged dryer vents are the Number One cause of house fires.

Having your dryer vents cleaned by Tru-Clean offers peace of mind to you and your family while extending the life of your dryer and saving you money in electric costs.

Our thoroughly exhaustive cleaning begins with a video inspection of your dryer vent system, followed by an air volume reading to measure dryer exhaust output.  We then rotary clean the entire dryer vent system, introduce a disinfectant and fungicide to combat mold, mildew, and bacteria within the duct system, and finish by cleaning the lint screen and vacuuming under and around the dryer.

If your clothes are taking more than one cycle to dry, if they feel overly hot when removed from the dryer or if the room feels hot or unusually humid, it’s time to have your vent cleaned.

We service hundreds of homes annually and if our family can ever be of service to yours, please do not hesitate to give us a call any time.

Bird Nests, Lint and Fires – Have Your Dryer Vent Professionally Cleaned.

Bird Nest Found In Dryer Vent

Most people assume if they clean their dryer lint screen before starting a new load of laundry their clothes will dry quickly while not giving any thought to a potentially clogged dryer vent that could lead to a fire.

After all, if you clean your lint screen, there’s no possible way your dryer vent can be clogged with lint, right?

The truth is, your dryer’s vent screen does a good job at trapping “some” lint but not “all” lint.  Over time, lint mixes with moisture from your dryer and slowly cakes inside your dryer vent system.  As this caking builds up, the internal size of your vent reduces, and exhaust from your dryer cannot escape as efficiently as designed, and a host of problems develop including complete exhaust blockage.

Take this simple quiz, and if you can answer YES to any of these questions, it may be time to have your dryer vent serviced.

  • Dryer takes more than one cycle to dry clothes (30-40+ minutes)
  • Your garments are hot and damp after one cycle
  • Dryer gets extremely hot during a cycle
  • Notice a burning smell when doing laundry
  • Dryer cuts off mid-cycle
  • The dryer blows its heating element or trips breakers

In addition to lint issues causing severe choking of your exhaust, examination of client’s ducts by our camera system, have shown other obstructions such as bird nests, seeds and nuts left by squirrels and rodents, seam separation within the ductwork, and other issues that obstruct proper exhaust.

A professional dryer duct cleaning every 12-18 months will offer the homeowner the following benefits:

Advantages

  • Clothes Dry Faster
  • Extends the Life of Your Dryer – By removing vent obstructions, your dryer will work more efficiently thereby extending its life
  • Prevents Fires – Clogged vents are a fire hazard waiting to happen. Don’t be one of the 15,000 dryer vent fire victims reported annually
  • You’ll save money because your dryer won’t have to run as much to dry your clothes

Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care’s dryer vent cleaning service is designed to enhance your dryer’s performance, extend your appliances life and help reduce the chances of fire due to clogged dryer ducts.

Our Dryer Vent Cleaning Process

  1. We use specialized equipment to video scope your dryer duct system to look for obstructions and damage so that we can formulate the exact cleaning requirement of your job.
  2. We perform a Digital airflow test to measure and compare the airflow of your dryer vent before and after cleaning.
  3. Once we have examined the interior of your dryer duct system and performed an airflow test, our technician will remove any obstructions (ie. Bird nests, dead rodents, pet hair buildup, socks, dryer sheets, nuts and seeds left by animals, animal droppings, construction debris etc.) and begin the lint removal process.
  4. Our duct cleaning is performed using rotary brush extraction and a powerful vacuum recovery system.  We will clean the entire dryer duct system and vacuum under and around the dryer.  We will also check your dryer’s exhaust vent that connects from your dryer to the vent intake located in your wall.
  5. Lint and debris removal is just the beginning of our dryer vent cleaning process. Because your dryer vent also carries moisture and potentially serves as a housing for rodents, feces, and bird nests, we thoroughly sanitize your vent with a hospital grade bactericide.
  6. Our final process is returning your dryer to its original location and making sure your exhaust vent is appropriately connected.

Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care is a Certified Partner with the prestigious Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) and the International Carpet & Rug Institute (CRI).  In addition, we are A+ rated by the Better Business Bureau and a five-year-in-a-row-winner of the coveted Angie’s List Super Service Award.

Removing Spots From Your Carpeting In SW Florida

Specialized Spot Extraction Technique

On average, Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care cleans close to 80 homes per week, and the first thing our technicians ask the client is “are there any spots that are bothering you or seem to come back after you’ve had your carpets professionally cleaned?”

Inevitably, the majority of our clients will say that a particular spot keeps coming back or that their previous carpet cleaner told them that a spot is “permanent.”

First, let’s address the two reasons why spots keep returning after your carpeting has been professionally cleaned.

Reason 1: Wicking

Many times, the cause of the spot has seeped into the backing of the carpet. This is common with pet urine, beverages, and anything that is spilled in “volume.”

When something has spilled on your carpeting in a large quantity, the liquids penetrate the carpet backing and reside in the padding where they dry and remain dormant until reenergized with steam cleaning.

When cleaning your carpeting, steam is injected deep in the pile thereby moistening the underlying cause of spots returning.  As the carpeting starts to dry, these residues will rise to the top of the carpet fibers within a week or so, and once again, you have the same spots you had before the cleaning.

When the carpet is cleaned it looks good, when it dries the spots and traffic areas come back.

Reason 2:  Re-soiling

Re-soiling is caused by a sticky residue that has been left behind. The residue may be from the spot itself, a spotting agent the client used in an attempt to remove the stain or the cleaning solution the carpet cleaner used when your carpets were last cleaned.

Some common residue causes are over-the-counter carpet cleaners purchased at the grocery store. Avoid using these cleaners altogether. If you have to use one or you use dishwashing detergent, use as little as possible and rinse with water thoroughly.

Other residue causes would be oily spots. Duct tape residue, body oils, lotions, etc. If all of the oily residues are not removed, they will attract soil as the carpet is walked on. Even a quality professional cleaning may not remove all oily residue the first time.

SPECIAL NOTE: Cheap carpet cleaners use the cheap products that are ineffective at removing deep-set soils and oily residues.  If you’ve ever hired a carpet “cleaner” because they were the cheapest you could find, chances are, spots appeared after “cleaning,” residues from the detergent used were left behind, the carpet fibers were stiff, and the carpeting resoiled rapidly.

Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care’s technicians are trained to ask clients what concerns them about their carpeting and then tailor a custom cleaning around those concerns.

In instances where spots keep returning, our technician will use specialty spotting agents designed to force contaminates that are deep set in the carpet and padding to release where they can be removed by a specialized extraction tool.  We guarantee spot removal and if a spot returns within 14 days of our cleaning, we will return at no extra charge.

Why did my previous carpet cleaner say a “spot was permanent” and your technician was able to remove it?

The answer is simple; they lacked experience, tenacity, and probably certification or specialized training.

Recently we were contacted by a new client and asked to clean her carpeting.  When our technician arrived and was performing a walk-thru to access the carpet needs, the client advised him to “ignore that Kool-Aid stain; my previous carpet cleaner said it is permanent.”

After a few minutes, our technician was able to eradicate the Kool-Aid spot and the client was beyond pleased.  Since the previous carpet cleaner worked for a large national firm, she asked why they would tell her something that wasn’t true.  The answer is Experience!  Their technician didn’t have the training, specialized tools, or proper spotting agents necessary to perform the spot removal.

Carpet Cleaning – Pet Urine Treatment Throughout SW Florida

Pet Urine In Carpeting As Seen With Xenon Lighting

Pet urine can cause permanent damage to your floors and fabrics. It can also create an unhealthy indoor environment.

The warm acid state of urine offers a perfect breeding ground for bacteria, which will begin to flourish almost immediately upon deposit. In this original acid state, the urine begins to oxidize and react with the carpet or another textile to create a color change, which will become permanent if the urine is not treated immediately.

Some of this color change can be attributed to the strong ammonia that forms as urine passes through bacterial and chemical evolution. If left for days or weeks, depending on the fabric or floor type, urine salts and acids will change the dye structure, therefore causing permanent staining. Even if the soluble deposits are removed, the damage to the dye structure may already be done.

The Best Cleaning Agents for Urine and Other Biological Matter

Enzymes are the best cleaning agent for urine, vomit, and feces. Enzymes are the only cleaning agent that digests harmful bacteria. For the best results use an enzyme spotter after you have rinsed the carpet, especially if the spot is not a fresh one.

WARNING:  Many over the counter pet odor and/or stain removers contain oxidizers and can cause color loss.  If your carpet is new, such color loss can void the warranty.

Products To Avoid

Try to stay away from products with high pH such as ammonia, Resolve, and oxygen bleaches. These products will leave the carpet with a residue and in a high pH state, which will enable the carpet to attract dirt like a magnet. In some instances, the use of the wrong product can cause the urine stain to be permanent. Please call Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care first if you are not sure about a product you may want to try.

How Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care Treats Urine and Odor In Carpeting

  • When presented with a urine issue, our technician will check the carpeting, mattress or upholstery with a Xenon light designed to cause organic matter to “fluoresce” or glow.              The discovery of organic matter will allow us to determine how severe the problem is and the correct amount of enzymes to use to eliminate salts, biological matter, and off-gassing.
  • Once the urine deposits are located, the technician will treat these areas with a product designed to lift the salts and address any staining present.
  • We will then mix the appropriate amount of enzymes and flood the affected areas in sufficient quantity so that the enzymes will penetrate the carpet backing and underlying padding.
  • We will allow the enzymes sufficient dwell time, usually thirty minutes.
  • Upon completion of the dwell period, the technician will use a specialized tool to extract the enzymes, urine salts and bacteria from the carpeting and padding
  • We will then clean the carpeting as usual
  • The technician will then treat the carpeting once again with enzymes and use a fan to facilitate drying
  • Your carpeting will no longer off-gas and will be urine free

Please note:  Because bacteria is a living organism, and enzymes are designed to consume bacteria, the enzyme treatment will continue to work for a period of 7-14 days until its food source (bacteria) is no longer present.  Enzymes are harmless to pets and infants.

For more information on our urine treatment process, please visit the following links on our website for more details:

Keep Those Carpets Clean Or Your Mother-in-Law Will Talk About You

If you’re expecting guests this Memorial Day holiday, carpet, tile and upholstery cleaning can be an important step in making sure your home is ready for out of town visitors.

Not only will the whole house look fresh and inviting, but you can also remove dirt and grime before it leads to permanent damage and odor. A professional deep cleaning by Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care will also eliminate one more thing from your to-do list, making it easier to tidy up before entertaining guests.

Here are three important reasons to schedule a carpet cleaning service before holiday guests arrive:

  • Improves Sanitation: When guests arrive who have children, they often sit on the floor to play or watch television. If your carpets or tile are dirty or have pet urine issues, kids can pick up germs and allergens that may make them sick. A professional cleaning eliminates these contaminants, improves indoor air quality and reduces the risk of respiratory health problems.
  • Indoor Air Quality: Some guests with allergies may be sensitive to dust mites, pollen, pet dander and other allergens trapped in your carpeting.  Carpeted floor coverings are the largest filters in our home and can trap allergens leading to polluted indoor air quality.  If you have pets in the house, they contribute their fair share of unpleasant odors too. Professional cleaners use steam power to get rid the unwanted scents before guests arrive, ensuring that all they smell is fresh-clean carpeting, tile, and upholstery.
  • Prevents Permanent Staining: The longer a spill or pet urine remains in the carpeting, the increased likelihood of what was once a “spot” has now become a “stain.” The difference between a “spot” and a “stain” is that spots tend to act as a covering agent that can be removed with a thoroughly exhaustive cleaning, whereas a stain removes color, and is often  As an example; if you spill peanut butter on your favorite jeans, this is a “spot” and will remove with a good cleaning.  On the other hand, if you spill bleach, this is a “stain” and will not remove with a cleaning, no matter how hard you try.

Preventative annual carpet cleanings will improve air quality, help prevent permanent staining, and make your home more inviting while preserving your carpet’s warranty and lifespan.

Moreover, one final “good reason” to clean your carpeting before holiday guests arrive, especially if one of those guests is your mother-in-law, is to prevent her from talking about you behind your back about how dirty your home is.  😊
