Does Your Business Turn Potential Customers OFF?

According to a Harris Interactive survey, businesses with dirty floors turn off customers 86% of the time.

The businesses surveyed were as varied as restaurants, offices of lawyers, realtors, CPA’s, automobile dealerships, hotels, motels and small businesses.

Simply put, if the first thing a potential customer/client is greeted with when they enter your business is dirty floors (carpeting and tile) and upholstery, you’re potentially asking them to take their hard-earned dollars elsewhere.

Ask yourself, would you eat at a restaurant with filthy floors, booths or chairs?  What does it say about your attorney or CPA if they won’t invest in keeping their office furniture drool and stain free?  What impression does the realty company make when they’re hoping you’ll choose them for one of the largest purchases you’ll probably make in your life yet they won’t invest a couple hundred dollars in keeping their lounge area fresh and clean.

Sometimes business put too much emphasis on their “bottom line” and think they’re saving a dollar or two by not investing in keeping their facilities clean.  Many forget that without clients, they have no business.  Many also believe that “a carpet cleaner is a carpet cleaner” so they choose to hire the cheapest they can find.

What many businesses don’t understand is that quality cleaning solutions, coupled with powerful cleaning equipment and experienced-certified technicians, will deliver a cleaning that will last longer and make them look good.  Too often, “budget cleaners” use cheap cleaning solutions (some even use laundry detergent that leave behind residue), antiquated cleaning equipment, employees who are not experienced or back ground checked and no insurance to undercut legitimate cleaning companies to land an account.  The problem with these cleaners is that the end result of their “cleaning” will not last due to left behind residues and spots that will continue to attract dirt.

How do dirty carpets and upholstery affect your business?

  • Harms employee health: Dust, dirt, bacteria, food and drink spills, and even viruses can get trapped in carpeting, leading to fever, headaches, and colds. And as employees and customers mill around, they push these allergens deeper and deeper into the carpets, making them harder to remove with traditional vacuuming. In addition, mold spores can grow quickly on dirty carpets, leading to allergic reactions in some people.
  • Spreads unpleasant odors: Who hasn’t eaten lunch at their desk? While there’s nothing wrong with eating a sandwich as you work, those food crumbs will inevitably fall into the carpet. Combine those food particles with spilled coffee, soda, or juice, and your carpet is bound to start smelling funky as bacteria start going to work on all that yummy food! Now, think about what happens at restaurants.
  • Affects your reputation: If a customer or client visits your office, you only have one chance to make a great first impression. And there’s nothing like a coffee stain, dirty carpeting, or upholstery to ruin it for you.
  • Increases damage to the carpet: The accumulation of dirt, dust, food, and bacteria will reduce the lifespan of your carpet, costing you more money when you need to buy replacements more often than usual. A damaged carpet also starts a vicious cycle: the more damage it has, the more dirt it will trap.

Your carpet at work is no different than your carpet at home. They both act like filters, trapping dirt and grime. But, for some reason, we don’t worry as much about workplace carpets as we do about our home carpets even though we actually spend more active time in the workplace.

There is a common misconception that because there are no pets or kids at work, our office carpets won’t be as dirty.

The reality is that we spend 40 hours or more each week at our businesses, and a dirty carpet can have a huge impact on our productivity, health, and happiness not to mention what it says about our business to potential customers.

Clean Your Carpets Without Cleaning Out Your Wallet in SW Florida

Too Good To Be True Carpet Cleaning Coupons?

If you think a carpet cleaning company is going to thoroughly clean your carpeting for $8.95 a room, I’ve got a mansion for sale for the low, low price of $1000.00 on Gordon Drive in Naples.

“Cleaning Carpet Can Be a Dirty Business” “Not All Scum Is In the Carpet” “Don’t Let them Pull The Rug Out From Under You” “Clean Your Carpets Without Cleaning Out Your Wallet” “Don’t Get Taken To The Cleaners.”  These clever phrases have appeared recently in newspaper articles and televised news programs across the nation warning consumers about carpet cleaning scam operations. The media has related horror stories of trusting consumers who have responded to low-price carpet cleaning specials only to become victims of unethical cleaners who refuse to honor the advertised price, intimidate the consumers and do poor quality work.

Bait-and-switch operators are prevalent in many industries, and the carpet cleaning industry is no exception. This does not mean that all carpet cleaners are rip-off artists. How do you know who is and who is not?

The professional carpet cleaning industry has cited these scam activities as a major industry concern and is taking action to help eliminate unprofessional workmanship and unethical tactics. One of the leaders in this campaign is the IICRC, an international, non-profit organization that certifies cleaners who meet prescribed levels of technical proficiency and pledge to operate by a Code of Ethics.

To help educate consumers so they will not become victims of fraudulent practices within the cleaning industry, the IICRC has released a list of guidelines to consider when selecting a carpet cleaner.

Price – If an advertised price sounds too good to be true – it is! Often unscrupulous carpet cleaners advertise a low price just to get their foot in the door.

Use common sense; a low price usually equates to low quality for ANY product or service. Legitimate business people have expenses they must cover, including license, taxes, insurance, employee wages, benefits, and quality tools of the trade. A professional carpet cleaner who must cover these business expenses and make a profit to stay in the business cannot afford to drive to your house for $8.95 a room, much less clean a room of carpet when there.

Quality – Never should the price of cleaning services be the sole criterion for selecting a carpet cleaner unless you simply don’t care about quality. A price that sounds high may not be a signal of a rip-off. In all professions, quality work deserves a quality price.  Some consumers believe that “a carpet cleaner is a carpet cleaner” and look for the lowest price they can find, and quite honestly, could care less about quality.

Truth in Advertising – Read the fine print in advertised specials to find out exactly what the price includes, and request a firm price in writing before the work begins.

Training – Professional cleaning firms require management and employees to engage in formal training in a variety of cleaning disciplines, and these educational efforts will be ongoing.  Consumers should ask about the formal training background of technicians who will be cleaning their carpet.

Certification – Professional firms require technicians who have certification from organizations like the IICRC or through independent training and testing organizations.

Experience – The years of experience a firm has, combined with formal training programs, contribute significantly to the experience and proficiency of its employees.

Knowledgeable – Professional firms employ and train technicians who have the ability to answer basic questions regarding carpet performance and maintenance, as well as spotting and cleaning.

Insurance – Carpet, tile, and upholstery cleaning firms should carry liability and worker’s compensation insurance or do not allow them into your home.  Insurance protects the homeowner in the event an item is stolen or damaged and worker’s compensation protects you in the event their employee is hurt while performing work on your property.  Many carpet cleaning companies do not carry insurance and the homeowner is none the wiser until an employee is hurt at their home (slip and fall, etc.) and you receive a notice from a law firm.

References – Consumers should do their due diligence and investigate any contractor they are going to invite into their home. They should consult friends and business acquaintances about the reputation of the cleaning firm they are considering. Do not hesitate to investigate the company via the Better Business Bureau or Angie’s List website.

Trade Associations – Professional cleaning firms are members of regional or national trade associations or other organizations that promote high ethical standards and continuing education. Look for trade and business association logos in advertising such as the IICRC, the CRI (Carpet & Rug Institute), the Better Business Bureau and/or Angie’s List.

Method – Ask the cleaner which method of cleaning and what steps will be used to perfect the cleaning. At Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care, our pricing INCLUDES pre-spotting, a pre-spray designed to help life deep set dirt and other contaminants, steam cleaning, a pH condition rinse, fan assisted drying and a bottle of spotter.

There is no single criterion for selecting a carpet cleaning service. Several combined factors must be considered in the selection decision.

Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care is a Certified partner with the prestigious Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC and the International Carpet & Rug Institute (CRI).  In addition, we are A+ rated by the Better Business Bureau and a four-year-in-a-row-winner of the coveted Angie’s List Super Service Award.

As the “cleaner of choice” to many of our areas leading interior designers, floor covering specialists, building superintendents, realtors, and consumers desirous of a quality cleaning, we know a thing or two about delivering a quality service and product.

All carpet cleaning companies are NOT the same, and unfortunately, some consumers learn this lesson the hard way.  We can count the number of times each month we are asked to “fix” a carpet cleaning issue because someone fell victim to an unscrupulous carpet, tile or upholstery cleaning company.

Services Offered Thoroughly Exhaustive Carpet Cleaning | Tile and Grout Cleaning | Upholstery Cleaning | Leather Cleaning | Mattress Cleaning | Pet Urine Treatments | Grout Staining

Regular Mattress Cleaning – For the “Health” Of It!

Although most people pride themselves on keeping their homes neat, tidy, and clean, it’s surprising how often their mattresses get overlooked.

Because the mattress is covered and looks clean to the naked eye, most of us assume the mattress is “clean.”  The truth is although your mattress may look spotless, you have a mattress pad, and you regularly change your bed sheets, your mattress is not sufficiently clean and can harbor hundreds of thousands of dust mites.

At Tru Clean Carpet & Tile Care, we clean hundreds of mattresses annually.  Many of our clients are amazed, and some horrified, at the volume of dead skin flakes, dirt particles and pollen, not to mention millions of dust mites and other organisms that are removed during our thoroughly exhaustive cleaning process.  It’s a well-known fact that over time your mattress gains considerable weight from these contaminants. Pretty gross, isn’t it?

All of that said, what exactly are the benefits of regular mattress cleaning?

Having your mattresses professionally cleaned every 12-18 months will help maintain healthy indoor air quality in the bedroom, extend the life of the mattress, and contribute to a good night’s sleep.

When you consider we spend roughly a third of our lives in bed, maintaining a healthy mattress has health benefits as well.

Whenever a person turns in their sleep, the movement causes dust, pollen, dust mites and other particles to escape from the mattress into the air we breathe. Poor air quality is deemed to be the cause of health ailments from something as simple as throat and eye irritations to more serious respiratory problems which cause symptoms such as sneezing, congestion, watery eyes, and even fatigue.

Dust Mites – Dust Mites – Dust Mites

Fact, any mattress that is slept on has dust mites and the best mattress cover in the world will not prevent dust mites from gaining access to the mattress.

Allergy Management

One of the most common triggers of allergies such as asthma, eczema, and rhinitis is known to be dust mites and their excrement. Since dust mites are commonly found lurking in a mattress then it’s important, particularly if you or a family member suffers from allergies, to have the mattress professionally cleaned on an annual basis to prevent dust mites from taking up residence.

Physicians highly recommend mattress cleaning as many allergy patients have worse attacks at night when they’re sleeping as their bodies react to the dust and mites present in the mattress. Consequently, by minimizing contact with these allergens, you can avoid one more allergy trigger which could cause a serious health condition.

Total Peace of Mind

Knowing that you’re sleeping on a clean mattress rather than one that is full of dust mites and dead skin flakes is sure to help you sleep better and give you total peace of mind. A good night’s sleep is crucial to starting the day right and helps us maintain physical and emotional wellness.

In addition to the health benefits of maintaining a fresh clean mattress, our technicians are able to remove most stains and odor from your mattresses such as coffee, drink, food, and pet or human odor and urine stains.

Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care is a Certified Partner with the prestigious Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) and the International Carpet & Rug Institute (CRI).  In addition, we are A+ rated with the Better Business Bureau and a four-year-in-a-row-winner of the coveted Angie’s List Super Service Award.  Our cleaning solutions are allergen free and safe for pets and infants.

How To Remove Paint From Carpeting In SW Florida

You’re painting a wall in your home when suddenly you notice you’ve spilled paint on your carpeting.

Whenever you’ve accidentally dribbled paint on your carpet you must act right away to avoid the pigments of the paint from permanently staining your carpeting.

Water Based Paint

Water based paints can be removed by using soapy water (Dawn liquid detergent is best) by following the steps below.

  • Scrape up as much of the water based paint as you can by using a spoon or dull knife.
  • Prepare a dishwashing solution by mixing 1 teaspoon of mild detergent to one cup of warm water.
  • Blot the area with this solution using either a sponge or cloth.
  • Repeat the procedure until no further trace of paint can be seen.
  • Rinse area with cool water then blot to dry.

Oil Based Paints

Oil based paints are more difficult to remove since oil based paints cannot be removed by just applying water and detergent. The best solvent to use on oil based paint is dry cleaning solvent (contact your local hardware store for a recommendation). Steps are given below.

  • Scrape up as much of the paint as you can by using a spoon or dull knife.
  • Apply a little bit of cleaning solvent/paint remover to the affected area.
  • Use a dampened towel or cloth to DAB the area, never scrub.
  • Use the same detergent solution as described above to blot the area until paint releases.
  • Rinse the carpeting with cool water and blot dry.

Additional Tips

Always BLOT the area and never scrub as this could force the pigments deep into the carpet fibers and padding.

If the paint is already dry do not attempt any of the above recommendations or rely on self-help or internet remedies.  It’s best to contact a professional such as Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care who has the experience, certification, and tools necessary to attempt a complete removal of the paint.

ONCE PAINT HAS DRIED NEVER ATTEMPT SPOT REMOVAL ON YOUR OWN.  YOUR ATTEMPTS CAN MAKE MATTERS WORSE.

It should be noted that some remnants of paint can never be removed.  In some instances, dyes in the paint can penetrate the carpets dye sites and permanently etch and transform the carpets natural color to that of the paint.

We are the “cleaner of choice” to many of the area’s leading flooring contractors, building maintenance superintendents, interior designers, painting contractors and insurance companies.

Grout Coloring and Sealing in SW Florida – The Good Guys and The Bad!

Your Tile and Grout Flooring Can Look New Again

When tile is installed, rarely is the grout sealed by the installer.  Grout that has not been sealed allows dirty mop water, spills, soil and bacteria to soak into the grout leaving the tile with dirty, discolored grout lines.  Oftentimes homeowners will attempt to clean tile and grout with harsh chlorine or vinegar based products only to realize a couple weeks later, their efforts were in vain.  The grout lines immediately start to appear dull, and the dirt, oils, pet urine, etc. that previously resided deep within the grout line, out of reach to the homeowner, will simply rise to the top.

Color sealing by Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care is guaranteed to make grout lines uniform, stain free and perfect, while also preventing future discoloration, stains, and bacteria from entering the grout.  Our grout coloring process includes a colorant, commercial grade sealer, and antimicrobial designed to protect your tiled areas for years to come.

Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care’s sealing process offers the customer an unlimited option of colors to choose from!   We can restore the original color or custom color match the grout to the tile and decor of your home.  Simply changing the color of the grout can often transform the look of the entire floor.  Once Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care’s proprietary color sealer is applied, NOTHING can penetrate and stain the grout lines again!

The Truth Is, The More You Clean Un-Sealed Grout The Dirtier It Becomes

Because grout is porous every time a floor is mopped, the dirty mop water soaks into the grout lines staining and discoloring it.  Bacteria also penetrates and begins to grow causing odor problems and mold.  The only way to properly avoid these issues is by sealing the grout.

When clients hire Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care to color seal and protect their grout, the first step of the process is to clean the flooring using powerful truck mounted equipment.  Once your tile and grout have been cleaned, we apply a proprietary color seal by hand, carefully ensuring that each grout line receives the right amount of color and sealant.

Once the grout is color sealed cleaning is a cinch!   You simply wet mop the floor with a neutral cleaner we provide and allow to dry.  No rinsing necessary.

Not All Grout Coloring Companies Are The Same

Annually we’re called upon by consumers who had their grout “color sealed” only to witness it peel and crack and asked if we can help since the original contractor either won’t return their call or disclaims any liability.

The truth is, in the tile and grout cleaning and coloring industry, there are ethical companies bound by certifications, experience, and Better Business Bureau A+ ratings and there are unscrupulous companies who use cheap sealants that will not stand the test of time.  The consumer should thoroughly check the reputation of any company they invite into their home and not be blinded by smooth talking “salespeople” or coupons.

Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care is a Certified Partner with the Prestigious Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) and the International Carpet & Rug Institute (CRI).  In addition, we are A+ rated by the Better Business Bureau and a four-year-in-a-row-winner of the coveted Angie’s List Super Service Award.

Our services are relied upon by some of the area’s leading interior designers, builders, contractors, and flooring professionals and our service guarantee is one of the strongest in the industry.

How To Choose A Reputable Carpet Cleaning Company In SW Florida

When it comes to looking for carpet cleaners in SW Florida you might think it’s just a matter of Googling or looking through a discount coupon book.  But, think again!

Choosing who you invite into your home should be more important than a matter of sticking a pin in a name and going with that. If you value your home, and in this case your carpets, upholstery, tile or Oriental area rugs, you need to make certain you pick a tried and trusted company with a reputation for quality and service.

Of course, if quality doesn’t matter, and you’re simply looking for the cheapest clean possible, ignore the rest of this blog.

There are numerous horror stories around, so make sure you do not become one of them. Also, treat “rave reviews” that are not vetted by Angie’s List or the Better Business Bureau with a degree of suspicion. Many “rave reviews” are created by friends and family, company employees and even companies that “produce” reviews for a fee.

What you should be looking for are accreditations and recommendations from national trade associations, friends or family, and trusted sources such as the BBB or Angie’s List.

If you want a carpet, tile or upholstery cleaning company which is bound by a respected code of ethics, choose one who is a member of the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) and the International Carpet & Rug Institute (CRI).  Also, check out how long they have been servicing SW Florida and pay attention to reviews VERIFIED by the BBB and/or Angie’s List. Further, check out the validity of their address.

Many companies use false addresses to deceive potential customers. This is often so that if problems arise you cannot find them or to make themselves appear more professional than they are. Ask to visit their premises. If they refuse this simple request, don’t use them. You don’t actually have to visit if it is too far away, but merely asking the question can weed out some of the unscrupulous ones.

Also be aware of Oriental rug cleaning companies who say rugs are cleaned at their “plant.”  We’ve seen many carpet cleaning companies mislead clients, and their “plant” is actually a parking lot or driveway.  No certified technicians, no cleaning “plant” no dusting equipment and no bath for the area rugs.

Whether you’re in Lee, Charlotte or Collier County, try to settle on a company that has plenty of in-house knowledge, certifications, good reviews, insurance, and expertise. A company where you will get to talk to a member of management at the conclusion of the work to make sure you are delighted with the outcome. Also, look for a company which offers guarantees in writing should something go wrong or you’re not completely satisfied.

You should also make certain the company you invite into your home is sufficiently insured with liability and Workers Compensation insurance.  Liability insurance will protect your home and valuables should a technician damage your property, or worse, have an accident that injures them.  If the company fails to have insurance and one of their employees gets hurt on your property, guess who pays?  The homeowner!

Also, don’t be lured in by a “cheap” telephone or coupon book quote only to have it doubled, or even tripled, when the cleaner arrives to tell you about all the hidden “extras” they forgot to mention on the telephone such as “deep scrub”.

All carpet cleaning companies are NOT the same and who you invite into your home matters.

At Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care, our employees are background checked twice a year and are some of the most experienced technicians in SW Florida.  We carry Liability Insurance for our clients peace of mind as well as Workers Compensation coverage for our employees.

What Are Those Black Lines Under My Doors and Around Baseboards?

Filtration Lines Around Baseboard

If you have light colored carpet, you may have experienced dark lines appearing around your doorways and along baseboards.  These dark lines are called filtration soiling because it comes from air passing through the carpet as it attempts to get through the crack between the carpet and the baseboard or under a closed door.

As air passes through the edge of the carpet pile, this microscopic soiling is deposited there (hence the term filtration soiling). This occurs over a significant period of time and is not noticed until a buildup has occurred.

This type of soiling is difficult to remove because the soil particles are so fine that they penetrate deep into the carpet pile, sometimes into the backing of the carpet.

Can it be removed? Sometimes. With specialized products, time and effort, reasonable results may be achieved. A regular carpet cleaning will not eliminate these lines.

To help prevent filtration soiling, vacuum the edges of your carpeting on a regular basis. Also, be sure to change your AC filters monthly and reduce the burning of candles and incents. When cleaning these areas, be careful around the tack strip on the edge of the carpeting, it could nick your fingers!

Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care is a Certified Partner with the prestigious Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) and the International Carpet & Rug Institute.  In addition, we are A+ rated with the Better Business Bureau and a four-year-in-a-row-winner of the coveted Angie’s List Super Service Award.

For all of your carpet, tile, upholstery or mattress cleaning you can depend on our experienced technicians to deliver a phenomenal service.

Carpet Cleaning For Allergy Relief in SW Florida

Allergies are more than just a nuisance — they can be incredibly harmful to your health and potentially ruin your day. Allergies tend to operate on a tipping point scale; you may be fine with a certain amount of dust and pollen in your house, but the moment it exceeds that amount, you can start having a serious allergic reaction. The only way to manage these allergic reactions is to make sure that your house is kept as clean as possible.

Allergies are caused by variety of things: dust, pollen, grass, dander, pet dander, mildew etc.

Carpeting is GOOD for allergy sufferers

Carpets serve a vital role in allergy management. Our carpeting and area rugs are the largest filters in our home so they collect allergens and this is a good thing. Without carpeting, dust and dander would not be trapped in our carpeting and simply float through the air or end up on hard surfaces where they would become unsettled every time we walked in our home.

Allergens also enter our homes through the AC ventilation system where they are circulated by a large fan. Carpets trap these allergens so they can be reduced with your next vacuuming or eliminated with a professional carpet cleaning.

Thoroughly Exhaustive Carpet Cleaning For Allergy Relief

As discussed, carpeting acts as a huge filter where a host of allergens are trapped until eliminated through professional steam cleaning and allergen treatments. Vacuuming alone isn’t enough to eliminate soils, dust mites, pollen, pet dander and other allergens from your carpeting or area rugs.

Carpet Cleaning and Allergy Treatment

With the right allergy maintenance, you’ll find you can keep your family’s allergic symptoms to a minimum — even if you have pets or live in high pollen prone areas.

Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care is a Certified Partner with the prestigious Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC and the International Carpet & Rug Institute (CRI).  We know how to provide allergy relief!

Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care is also A+ rated by the Better Business Bureau and a four-year-in-a-row-winner of the coveted Angie’s List Super Service Award.  We have been helping to deliver allergy relief to thousands of clients since 2006 throughout SW Florida.

Our thoroughly exhaustive approach to allergen free carpet cleaning and treatments begins with a thorough inspection of our client’s carpeting to determine the issues causing discomfort.

We then initiate the following processes to help treat allergens while helping to restore our client’s indoor air quality.

  1. Discuss with client issues affecting their allergies
  2. Examine carpeting to determine best allergen treatment and cleaning process
  3. Apply allergen treatment
  4. Apply an allergy free cleaning solution designed to help eliminate pollen, soils, dust mites and pet dander
  5. Thoroughly exhaustive steam cleaning
  6. pH condition rinse to residues and contaminants
  7. Second application of allergen treatment
  8. Fan assisted drying
  9. A bottle of allergen free spotter is provided to client for life’s little “oops”
  10. Final walk thru with client

Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care’s low moisture steam cleaning method coupled with fan-assisted drying is ideal for allergy suffers as carpet will dry within a couple hours and not days.  Our anti-allergen treatment will sanitize your carpeting and our high heat steam cleaning with pH conditioned rinse will ensure your complete satisfaction.

We also recommend changing your AC filters monthly, avoid sprinkling “carpet freshening powders” into your carpeting, and make sure to use mats at points of entry into your home.  A thorough vacuuming twice a week will also provide relief.

Allergen sufferers don’t have to feel trapped in their own homes.

Grout is a porous material and will absorb spills, mop water and pet urine like a sponge.  The more your grout absorbs, the worse it looks.  Eventually, the pores become full and blocked and no matter how much mopping you do with bleach, your grout lines will never look any better without professional intervention.

Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care can make your grout look phenomenal through the process of color sealing.

We can enhance or change the color of your grout while applying a sealer guaranteed to last fifteen years with proper maintenance.  This sealer prohibits grout from being able to absorb moisture and makes maintenance for the homeowner a snap.  With regular mopping, you can maintain your tiled flooring and keep it looking pretty much the same way it did the day it was color sealed.

Professional color sealing is the perfect solution to make your flooring look new again.

Unlike tile and grout cleaning where imperfections will remain in the grout, color sealant hides these blemishes while sealing the grout in any color of your choosing.  Our sealers can match the current color of your grout, go lighter or darker, or change the color to over 10,000 possibilities.

Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care is a Certified Partner with the prestigious Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) and the International Carpet & Rug Institute.  In addition, we are A+ rated by the Better Business Bureau and a four-year-in-a-row-winner of the coveted Angie’s List Super Service Award.

Unlike many color sealers which are really nothing more than household paint that will chip within a year or so, our color sealant is an actual dye that will stain the grout while impregnating them with Microban to prevent any possibility of mold or mildew growth.  In addition, our coloring process is bonded with a sealant designed to deliver years of protection against a variety of spills.

Why Spots On Your Carpeting Keep Coming Back

Carpet Stains…  They’re Baaack!

Naturally, you expect your carpets to look better after cleaning than before. So it may come as a surprise when some of the spots return.

There are two reasons this can happen: “re-soiling” from residue and “soil wicking.”

Reason 1:  Re-soiling

Re-soiling is caused by a sticky residue that has been left behind. The residue may be from the spot itself (sugar, dye or pet urine), the cleaning agent the homeowner used to try to remove the stain prior to professional cleaning, or both.

Some common residue causes are over-the-counter carpet cleaners purchased at the grocery store. Avoid using these cleaners altogether. If you must use one, or you have used dishwashing detergent, use as little as possible and rinse, rinse, rinse with water thoroughly.

Other residue causes would be oily spots. Duct tape residue, body oils, lotions, etc. If all the oily residue is not removed, it will attract soil as the carpet is walked on. Even quality professional cleaning may not remove all oily residue the first time, especially if it has sunk to the backing or padding of the carpet.

Reason 2: Wicking

Many times, the face yarns of carpeting will show spots, and they easily disappear with a professional carpet cleaning only to “return” within a couple of days.  This condition is called “wicking.”

Wicking is common with pet urine, beverages, and anything that is spilled in “volume.” With a large spill, the material penetrates the carpeting and dries in the backing and the cushion (pad). When the spot is cleaned, only the material in the “pile” of the carpet is removed, however, deep set residual spillage in the backing and padding of the carpeting remain.

As your carpet is professionally cleaned, moisture and steam is introduced into the face fibers of the carpet. As carpeting dries, the material that makes up the backing of the carpet and carpet padding releases spillage it has been holding on to and allows this dried material to liquefy and “wick” back into the face pile as the carpeting dries.  When the carpet is cleaned, it looks good, when it dries the spots and traffic areas come back.

A professional carpet cleaner can clean the “face” of carpeting however deep-set spillage can be out of reach and will require a special service referred to as water clawing.

In instances where a water claw is required, the affected area will be flooded with a cleaning/degreasing agent and allowed to penetrate the carpet backing and padding.  After sufficient dwell time, the technician will use a special device referred to as a “water claw.”  This devise, coupled with a powerful truck mount, will evacuate the carpeting and padding of any foreign spills thereby preventing further wicking.

An unwelcome surprise

As carpet cleaning professionals, we can’t guarantee that re-soiling and soil-wicking will never happen. But if your spots do return, please call us. Our goal is to make certain clients are happy with our service and if a spot returns, so will we.
