Dryer Vent Cleaning – Regular Cleanings Are A “Good Thing”

Dryer Vent Cleaning Message

All Dryer Vent Cleaning Companies are NOT The Same

Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care has an A+ Rating by the Better Business Bureau, and we are a five-year-in-a-row-winner of the coveted Angie’s List Super Service Award.  Our thoroughly exhaustive approach to dryer vent cleaning is relied upon by realtors, apartment complexes, condominium associations and homeowners who don’t want to worry about a fire starting in their dryer vent ducting.

We take our job or dryer vent cleaning seriously.  We have to, as families depend on our cleaning services for a good night’s sleep.

How We Clean Dryer Vents

Our services begin with the testing of the air flow of your dryer vent before and after cleaning.   This measurement allows us to determine the airflow efficiency before and after the cleaning.

The next step is to disconnect the dryer vent and use a video scope to inspect the inside of the dryer ducting, from the wall to where the venting exits the home or structure.  This scoping allows us to check the health of your ducting and note any obstructions such as lint build up, potential bird or insect nests, twigs and other impediments.

The technician will then insert a rotating brush and safely snake it through the entire duct system while a powerful vacuum or truck mount unit is used to evacuate the dislodged contaminants as a result of the rotary cleaning.  We will then reinspect the ducting with a video scope, and upon exceptional results, we fog the ducting with an antibacterial, clean under and around the dryer, vacuum the dryer vent screen and reapply the vent duct.

Do you really need your dryer vent cleaned?

Dryer duct cleaning prevents dangerous levels of a buildup of lint, potential nests, and other obstructions while significantly reducing the risk of a fire.

Dryer lint is highly flammable, and it doesn’t take much to ignite.  Cleaning your lint trap after each load of laundry is a good practice HOWEVER small particulate of lint will bypass this trap and stick to the moist walls of your dryer vent system.  Over time, this trapped lint chokes the ventilation and prevents efficient heat escape.  Dryer vent cleaning is recommended every 2-3 years, depending on how often the dryer is used.

How Do I Know When It’s Time To Have My Dryer Vent Cleaned?

The drying time for your clothing takes longer and longer, or you start to experience moisture in your laundry room when drying clothes.

A clogged dryer duct can increase the amount of time it takes to dry clothing by double or triple the time. Clothing that takes twice as long to dry is not only an energy waster but also a fire hazard.  The longer your dryer runs, the more wear and tear on the unit and reduced life expectancy of the dryer.

Your clothing and the outside of the dryer are very hot.

Do you notice that the dryer is unusually hot to the touch or that the clothing is much hotter at the end of the drying cycle? If the dryer duct becomes clogged, it makes it so the heat can’t escape the machine properly. This can cause the heating element or the blower to wear out or overheat. In time this will damage the dryer and create the need for costly repairs or possible replacement.

Burning smell.

Do you smell a burning odor when you run your dryer? Lint Is exceptionally flammable, and if this trapped lint gets too hot, it can catch on fire. If you start to smell a burning odor while running your dryer, stop and get it inspected.

The outside vent hood is clogged or doesn’t open.

The outside vent opening of the dryer duct sometimes has a flap that opens and closes. If this flap isn’t opening while the dryer is running, then it is most likely clogged. Dryer ducts are also favored by critters (birds, rodents, and reptiles) to hide because they can stay nice and warm. If this outlet doesn’t have a flap and it’s just an opening, sometimes birds make nests inside this and cause clogs.

How Much Does Dryer Vent Cleaning Cost?

A thoroughly exhaustive vent cleaning by Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care is $109.95 for most homes and includes the following steps:

  • Air measurement reading before and after dryer vent cleaning
  • Video scope of the entire dryer vent system
  • Rotary extraction cleaning
  • Antimicrobial infusion of the duct system to eliminate mold and mildew spores
  • Cleaning of the lint trap as well as under and around the dryer

If Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care can ever be of service in helping your dryer to run more efficiently and to help prevent a dryer duct fire, please do not hesitate to give us a call any time.

Grout Color Sealing – Guaranteed for LIFE!

Fact:  No matter how often you clean your tile flooring, and no matter which method you use (mopping, steaming, etc.), if your grout has not been sealed, it is absorbing dirty water, spills, etc. and it will “ugly over time.

Sanded grout begins as a dense granular that is used to fill gaps and serve as a reinforcement in the placement of your floor tiling.  Grout is generally a mixture of water, cement, and sand and is very porous once dried.  Grout is often tinted to help complement your tile flooring.

Because sanded grout is porous, to help protect against staining and discoloration, while helping to make cleaning up spills easier, it should have a protective coating applied.  A protective coating will help make your grout less absorbent thereby affording the time to clean up spills before they cause permanent damage.

Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care understands the necessity of grout sealing and offers two different sealing products, clear sealer or color sealant, that will help protect your grout.

Clear sealer is typically applied after the tile and grout have been professionally cleaned and the client is happy with the look wants to protect it the beauty of their grout lines from spills and moisture.  Clear seal is invisible to the naked eye and allows the natural beauty of the grout to come through while protecting it from the elements.

Our exclusive color sealer product is used when the client wants to change the existing color of their grout or restore it to better than new condition.  We can match any color, and our color sealer not only makes your grout look better than the day it was installed, with proper maintenance, but we also guarantee the beauty and sealant properties forever!

At Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care, we use industry-leading colorants and sealers that are applied by trained experts. Our services are relied upon by many of SW Florida’s leading interior designers, flooring contractors, restoration specialists and homeowners desirous of a permanent solution to their current “ugly” floor problem.

No matter which sealing solution you choose, our sealers are designed to form a moisture-tight seal over the grout to keep out liquids, dirt, and stains.

Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care offers free in-home estimates and the only company in the State of Florida to provide a lifetime guarantee.

Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care is a Certified Partner with the prestigious Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) and the International Carpet & Rug Institute (CRI).  In addition, we are A+ Rated with the Better Business Bureau and a five-year-in-a-row-winner of the coveted Angie’s List Super Service Award.

Carpet Cleaning – LOVE Your Carpets Again…

LOVE Your Clean Carpets

Some of the most common questions asked about carpet cleaning are, “Will the spots come back?”, “Will the dents from the furniture come out?”, “Will the traffic areas look better after it’s done?”, and “Will these stains come out?”

The answers depend on several factors that we consider when we clean your carpet. Carpet can be made with a variety of fibers, each having its own cleaning characteristics. Every fiber responds to traffic differently. Spills that are easy to remove from one fiber may permanently stain another. Various styles such as loop pile, friezé, shag, Saxony and velvet plush all respond to traffic in different ways.

The quality and density of the cushion is another factor that determines how well a carpet performs in traffic areas. Even the way the pile yarns are twisted and how tightly packed they are in the carpet backing makes a difference in durability and cleanability. An experienced cleaner will assess the condition of your carpet, asking questions such as, “How old is the carpet?”, “How was it cleaned in the past, and how often?”, “Was protector applied during the last cleaning?”, How old are the spots, spills and stains, and have you tried anything to clean them?”

With all these variables, it’s not an exact science. However, there are some things we know about carpet, fibers, soil, and stains that give us a clue as to what we can anticipate from the cleaning process.

The most important consideration is the type of fiber. Wool carpet has excellent resilience, so those crushed traffic areas and furniture indentations have a good chance of coming out. Wool is more easily stained by proteins than other fibers, so some foods, pet urine and other protein sources like blood will be difficult to remove.

Olefin carpets don’t have the resiliency of wool, so high traffic areas tend to pack down and lose that fluffy texture over time. Olefin has excellent stain-resistance and color-fastness.

Stain-resist nylon has excellent resilience and good stain and soil repellency, so carpets made with nylon tend to be the best overall performers. However, depending on how the fiber was dyed, Nylon may be bleached by some household chemicals or sunlight.

Polyester fibers have an affinity for oily soils, so food or petroleum grease spots will be more difficult to remove. However, Polyester, like Olefin, is very resistant to stains and bleaching. The bottom line is that how the carpet looks after cleaning will depend on some factors that are out of our control. However, with an experienced cleaner, you can be assured of the best results possible for your carpet.

Travertine, Marble and Granite Flooring Care in SW Florida

Beautiful Travertine Floor – Before and After Cleaning

Natural stone countertops are beautiful, luxurious, and if cared for properly will last a lifetime.  Our tile and grout cleaning professionals are experts in the cleaning and repair of travertine, granite, limestone and other natural stone surfaces and are often asked for advice on how to care for them.

Weekly we will post some of the more frequently asked questions along with an answer to help you make informed decisions on the best care practices for your natural stone surfaces.

Question:  Do I need to have my granite countertops sealed? I have heard so many conflicting answers.

Answer:  There is a straightforward way to tell if your granite, marble or limestone countertops or floors need to be sealed. Take a drop of water and place it on the stone. Wait about two minutes and blot up the water. If the water left a dark mark, indicating that the stone absorbed the water, it must be sealed.

Do keep in mind, however, that sealing a stone is done to give you more time to clean up a spill, so staining agents are less likely to be absorbed. Sealing will not protect the surface of calcite based (e.g., marble, limestone, travertine, onyx, and some granite) countertops from damage caused by acidic liquids. So, even though your countertops are sealed, you will still want to take care to use coasters and avoid acid based cleaners.

Want A Quality Carpet Cleaning – Choose The Right Carpet Cleaning Company.

A Quality Carpet, Tile or Upholstery Cleaning Begins With The Right “Science”

In order to be really good at a job, a person must first understand the fundamentals of that profession.  That ’s why Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care puts so much emphasis on training.

Did you know that carpet cleaning is a profession based on scientific principles of chemistry and physics?  It ’s true.  The ability to effectively clean anything—not just carpet—requires an understanding of the four basic principles of soil suspension; chemical action, heat, agitation and time.  We remember these fundamentals by the acronym CHAT.

The first of the fundamentals is chemical action.  Water is used for cleaning because of how it reacts with many soils.  In fact, water does most of the work in cleaning.  However, water alone is not very effective on oily or greasy soils.  We need specialty cleaning agents to dissolve some of the more difficult soils like food, grease and petroleum oils found in things like makeup, shoe polish, and ink.  These soils would be difficult or impossible to remove with plain water.

It ’s amazing how little of these cleaning agents we need to get great results.  When we dilute our products, we are actually using about 99.9% water!  If you find this hard to believe, consider how much bubble bath you need to make a whole tub full of suds.  It’s not much, is it?  Similarly, we use just enough cleaning solution to break down soils and no more.  This assures that we leave no unwanted residue.

Many uneducated cleaners subscribe to the “more is better”  mentality, so they overuse cheap, harsh detergents and leave a residue.  This is one reason why carpets get dirty quickly after untrained carpet cleaners do the job.

The second principle of soil suspension is heat.  Heat helps cleaning agents work better and faster.  Applying a heated cleaning solution makes cleaning more efficient, so we use less detergent.  Heat also helps liquefy oily, greasy and sticky soils, suspending them into the cleaning solution for effective removal.

Agitation is the third principle of soil suspension.  It makes cleaning more efficient by helping distribute cleaning agents for better penetration.  By agitating the cleaning solution into your carpet, we CHAT it out suspend soils and lift matted carpet yarns for better cleaning.

Time is the fourth principle of cleaning and soils suspension.  This is one area where many carpet cleaners drop the ball.  In order for a cleaning agent to work well, it needs “dwell time” to penetrate into the carpet yarns and break down stubborn soils.  When untrained cleaners rush this process, cleaning results suffer.  We make sure we allow the product to work so soils are completely dissolved for removal.

All of this is why after Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care is invited into your home, you can expect fluffy, fresh-smelling carpets that stay cleaner longer.  Once the carpets are completely cleaned, we can apply a carpet protector to help prevent stains and maintain that fresh, clean look even longer.

Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care is a Certified Partner with the prestigious Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) and the International Carpet & Rug Institute (CRI).  In addition, we are A+ rated by the Better Business Bureau and a five-year-in-a-row-winner of the coveted Angie’s List Super Service Award.

All carpet, tile, and upholstery cleaning companies are not the same.  A carpet cleaner who is experienced, certified and backed by leading edge cleaning solutions and technologies will deliver a better – longer lasting cleaning than a coupon, uncertified, and uneducated carpet cleaner.

When Is The Last Time You Had Your Dryer Vent Cleaned?

Four Year’s Worth Of Lint Accumulation In Dryer Vent

For many households, the clothes dryer is an indispensable convenience and necessity. However, damaging fires can occur if clothes dryers and their venting are not properly maintained.

Annually over 15,500 house fires are caused by clogged clothes dryer vents resulting in approximately 35 deaths, 425 injuries and over $205 million in property damage.  A family’s dreams and memories can be destroyed in minutes.

The How’s and Whys of a Clothes Dryer Fire

A clothes dryer works by forcing hot air through a turning drum. Wet clothes placed in the drum are then dried by moving hot air. It is possible for a full load of wet clothes to contain as much as one and a half gallons of water.

Lint, consisting mostly of small fibers from the clothes and debris in or on the clothes, is created from the clothes as the clothes tumble in the drum. While much of the lint is trapped by the dryer’s filter, lint is also carried through the vent system along with moist air.

Lint is a highly combustible material that can accumulate both in the dryer and in the dryer vent.

Accumulated lint leads to reduced airflow and can pose a potential fire hazard.  In addition to the accumulation of lint, blockage in dryer exhaust vents also can occur from the nests of small birds or other animals or from damages to the venting system itself.

A compromised vent will not exhaust properly to the outside. As a result, overheating may occur, and a fire may ensue.

How To Tell If Your Dryer Vent Needs Cleaning

  • Your dryer takes an unusually long time to dry your clothes. Even after multiple cycles, clothes may still be damp. If there isn’t anything wrong with the dryer, this can be a sign that the dryer vents need to be cleaned.
  • At the end of the dryer cycle, your clothes are very hot. This can be because the hot air that the dryer produces isn’t able to escape properly due to clogged vents.
  • The outside, especially the top, of the dryer is very hot. This is often because the dryer is working too hard, trying to push air through vents that are clogged with lint.
  • The dampers or flappers of the exhaust termination don’t open or barely open when the dryer is running. This can be because air is not traveling at all or very poorly through the vents.
  • The laundry room starts to feel very warm or humid when the dryer is in use. The hot, damp air can’t escape through the vents, so it lingers in the laundry room.
  • Moisture stains occur along the path of the dryer vent and exhaust. This can indicate that hot, moist air is escaping through the venting system, often because it’s being blocked by excessive lint.
  • You may notice excessive dust in the laundry room. This is because lint is getting backed up in the dryer vents and then blown back into the laundry room.
  • The dryer may stop before the dry cycle is finished because it can’t properly vent the hot air or the unit itself gets overheated. Clogged vents contribute to this.
  • A burnt smell in the laundry room can indicate that lint is backed up. If you notice a burnt smell, you should have the dryer and dryer vents inspected right away, as this could cause a fire.

If you notice any of the warning signs or multiple signs, it is time to call the experts at Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care. We provide free inspections / free estimates and reliable service to ensure that your dryer and venting system are working properly.

It should also be noted that a clean dryer vent system will help reduce electric costs (dryer will not require multiple cycles) and extend the life of your dryer.
